Can the gov. really punt?

Gov. Chris Christie was quoted in the Ledger today as saying he could punt a football from his house in Mendham Township to Mendham Borough. (That would be a very long punt).

His point is that talk of a 2.5 percent cap should encourage towns and school districts to seriously consider mergers.

Nothing wrong with that. But here’s the problem _ the governor also says that the state would not force mergers.

So, here is the bottom line _ If the state does not force towns and/or school districts to merge, nothing is going to change.

The state should take the lead on this issue; not punt it away.

By mistake, I once punted a pixie into the priests cemetery at St. Michael’s Monastery and had to retrieve it.
