What are they doing in Parsippany?

It is hard to believe the news today that the district is paying the superintendent of schools under a contract that has not been approved by the state.

That is the contract the board granted Lee Seitz last fall in defiance of what was then a pending state cap on salaries. As of now, the cap is no longer pending.

The legality of the cap will be decided by the courts. Still, why is the board now paying the superintendent a salary that may not stand up. If the cap is upheld, will Seitz have to reimburse the district?  His salary is now in the area of $215,000 a year and the cap is $175,000. So, we are talking about a lot of money here.

As we have seen in the past, this action by the board is more in line with the interests of Seitz than it is with taxpayers.

Fred, I’m guessing the board’s action is in part a fear the district will be left without leadership belief local boards are accountable to local residents not the state.

I guess there’s some truth in the later contention but what will cause local residents to act?

That’s what I was looking for on the DR site – your take on that (then, I found out the awful news about your departure). This whole Seitz thing kills me. I don’t understand what authority Mancuso thinks he has – why he can decide to hire an attorney to defend Seitz AND now give him a raise, while this battle is still being fought. I think Mancuso is Seitz – like Clark Kent/Superman, otherwise, why is he so personally invested in this guy?
