Christie wanted Backman

“It’s hard to get excited about Terry Collins,”  the governor said tonight regarding the Mets’ new manager.
Christie noted that Collins is 61 and that he has not managed for more than 10 years.
The governor said that he would have liked Wally Backman.
Backman, a second baseman on the 1986 Mets, was always a fan favorite thanks to his fiery personality and hard playing style.
As a Met fan myself, I agree that Collins is not an exciting figure, but I wasn’t sold on Backman. Wally, in my view, needs more experience. Keep in mind that he managed only a short-season Single A team.
I’m hoping for the best with Collins.

    Old coach……new coach ………….that coach ………… coach.
And I’m not referring to purses and handbags.
Better yet why don’t the Mets get a female coach – if she’s good looking – it would totally motivate the team to train and play hard to impress her.
Beat the Mets!!!! Go Yankees!!!! Woo Hoo!!!!!

Wally Backman will eventually be hired as the NY Mets manager. They brought in Terry Collins because right now the team is flat. Very little pitching . It will be hard to win the division with that rotation and bullpen.
Collins age should not be a factor. It will be a pluss. 61 is a a very wise age for any man. That is a good time. Many men at that age are better able to use reason instead of fists to solve isuues, etc. You cant buy wisedom and experience.
The Mets will not slack under Collins. he will make whatever talent is there toe the mark. The other reasons why they hired him is because he knows the Mets farm system better then anyboby else. He also managed in the Far East , and knows that talent as well.
Backman would have been more fun day to day, but for this group right now Terry Collins was the better choice.
They are going to have a very rough two years. That is all the Mets gave Collins to be the fall guy. They are saving Wally for when the organization is back on track.
