Roxbury football game NOT cancelled

Why, you may ask, was cancelling it even a possibility.  Here’s why?

At Monday’s school board meeting, a vote was taken to retain substitute athletic trainers. It was “”approved” by a vote of 5-2, but that was not good enough. Such votes require six affirmative votes, a majority of the 10-member board.  Board members Maureen Castriotta and Chris Rogers voted no, saying, among other things, that the administration did not provide them with enough info on the matter. Three members were absent.

After the vote failed, Superintendent Mike Rossi said that without substitute trainers, he may just cancel Friday’s football game against Delbarton. Sigh. That was truly a reckless position. And I got the feeling Rossi had no intention of cancelling something as significant in the world of high school football as a Friday night game. He was playing politics. Surely, other arrangements could have been made to compensate for the loss of substitute _ not full-time, but substitute _ trainers.

As it turned out, two absent board members appeared near the end of the meeting. Another vote was taken and the trainers were approved.

Get ready for kickoff!

This had nothing to do with football. It had everything to do with politics. There was a look of sheer terror in Rossi and 5 board members eyes at the realization of what’s to come when Roxbury TEAM candidates win 3 seats next school election. TOUCHDOWN! GAME OVER!

  2. GoROXBURY says:

Maybe this is a wake-up call to Roxbury. Good luck to everyone in Roxbury if any of the TEAM candidates win. You will need it.

Snowpants, you are single handedly redefining the term “nerd.” Keep on being yourself man.
I can actually see you at the pep rally, “Come on down here if you have ever been picked on, put down….”

Fred, I heard you hit a mean baseball in high school. It’s always nice to recall our own days in high school and remember the team spirit of organized sports. Glad to see they did the right thing.
