A moving farewell

A memorial ceremony was held Saturday afternoon at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown for Diane Weeks of Mendham Township.
More than 100 people attended, including Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty, state Sen. Anthony Bucco and former state Sen. Leanna Brown.
Church pastor Janet Broderick noted that Weeks had planned the service herself. Broderick drew laughs when she said that while talking about her accomplishments, Weeks told her she had gotten more votes in Mendham Township than any Democrat ever.
The service was attended by about 20 members of Weeks’ 1975 class at Princeton, who were recognizable by their orange and black plaid suit jackets.
Weeks was remembered as a passionate advocate for many causes _ everything from the plight of the disadvantaged to Princeton’s role in American life.
Weeks, 57, died Monday after a short battle with ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease.
The service concluded with the singing of Old Nassau, the Princeton University alma mater and the Battle Hymm of the Republic.
