Christie and John Adams

The Republican gubernatorial candidate has a fondness for our second president. Just about every time he ends one of his stump speeches, he tells an anecdote about Adams.

It is one in which Adams laments at the end of his life (1826) that the “new breed” of Americans did not fully appreciate the sacrifices made by Adams and others in the name of freedom. In fact, Christie quotes Adams as saying he may end up in heaven regretting there ever was a revolution.

The point is simple … it is up to today’s Americans to appreciate the freedom they have.

Christie says he used an Adams anecdote way back in 1994 when he ran for Morris County freeholder … I don’t know … Freeholder and John Adams? You mean, there’s a connection?
