No Palin for Christie

The Chris Christie campaign says it will not ask Sarah Palin to campaign for him this fall .. That’s probably a good move. Palin may be the darling of  social conservatives, but she’s not going to appeal to Democrats and independents.

Naturally, this decision has upset social conservatices, Here’s a post from a Col. Manly Rash, which is the nom de plume of a gentleman who attends political events attired as a Revolutionary War soldier …. complete with sword.

The message of the New Jersey GOP is loud and clear: not only is Sarah Palin is not welcome here, but neither are conservative Republicans. The GOP in in this state is a pathetic simulacrum of the party of Ronald Reagan – a political Potemkin Village populated by party hacks too busy shaking the plum tree to realize the ground beneath them is giving way.

At best, her presence here would have boosted the morale of the conservative faction of the Party – if only temporarily. I’m actually relieved that the Christie campaign made its intentions known, as this will serve as a warning to Mrs. Palin to avoid this particular pit of vipers

  1. Manly Rash says:

Truth be told, Fred, conservatives aren’t at all upset with the Christie camp. In fact, we are relieved. By announcing its intention, the GOP establishment has openly declared its allegiance to the Colin Powell wing of the Republican Party and its disdain for the 45% of the Republican electorate who voted against Christie in the primary.

In turn, they spared Mrs. Palin the ignominy of having to stump for a bloated RINO hack, thereby tarnishing her reputation as a Reaganite conservative. On the other hand, she does have a very good sense of these things and I wouldn’t be surprised that, if asked to come to New Jersey, she would politely decline.

And please dispense with the “social conservative” appellation, as it makes no political sense. A conservative is a conservative, Fred, and the only context in which “social conservative” has any relevance is when it is contrasted with “fiscal conservative.” The problem with most RINOs who claim to be fiscal conservatives is that, in the final analysis, they are anything BUT fiscally conservative. Just ask Olympia Snow and Susan Collins.

  2. Yes, I see your point … We will eschew (now, there’s a good word for the editorial page) the social conservative label in the future

Had Palin been invited, and agreed to campaign, there’s no guaranteeing that she wouldn’t quit if someone was mean to her.

She has plenty on her plate pallin’ around with publishers.

“Had Palin been invited, and agreed to campaign, there’s no guaranteeing that she wouldn’t quit if someone was mean to her.”

As I recall, she took quite a pounding during the ’08 campaign and never lost her grace or her poise. She resigned from the office of governor for two reasons: first, to free herself of the jackals nipping at her heels with dozens of frivolous lawsuits and second, to participate in the election process over the next 16 months. The 2010 mid-terms are critical for the survival of this republic and she didn’t want to be trapped in Alaska during that time.

“She has plenty on her plate pallin’ around with publishers.”

Perhaps she’ll write not one but TWO memoirs about her life. Hell, it worked for Obama and his only meaningful experience was pallin’ around with corrupt community organizers and domestic terrorists.

  5. Dan Grant says:

What is with the fragility of conservatives. Raise points against them and they call it “HATE” Be critical of Palin’s capacity to understand issues and it is “HATE” Are conservatives, by nature, just fragil little flowers with not ability to do anything but attack from the safety of their studios?
No political family has taken the day in day out beating then the Clintons and no female politition has taken the “Full Court” press better than Hillary and she is still in the game not sitting on the bench with a towel on her head. She even had a moronic US Senator shooting watermellons in his back yard just to prove someone killed Vince Foster.

Who said anything about hate, Dan? But since you brought it up, it’s worth noting that the sheer intensity of vitriolic hatred toward Mrs. Palin on the part of the unhinged Left far outdistances anything directed at Mrs. Clinton, especially when you consider the nakedly partisan bias of the Mainstream Media in favor of Mrs. Clinton (certainly when she was in the White House) and against Mr.s Palin (long after the 2008 election).

  7. Hogwash11 says:

You folks see nothing wrong with someone writing about Palins son and his special needs. You see nothing wrong with just being the governor of Alaska is costing this womans family a half a million dollars. I would like to know how you would hold up to spmeone saying on late night TV that Obama’s kid was knocked by P Diddy. There is no way that a sane person sees this as ok.

“the GOP establishment has openly declared its allegiance to the Colin Powell wing of the Republican Party and its disdain for the 45% of the Republican electorate who voted against Christie in the primary.”

That’s 45% of the 30% of the Republican electorate who bothered to vote at all, or less than 15% of the Republican electorate who voted against Christie in the primary. If Christie gets 85% of the Republican vote in November he’s in good shape.

  9. The Morris Optimist says:

Christie will need a lot more help than that to be in good shape!

  10. Manly Rash says:

“That’s 45% of the 30% of the Republican electorate who bothered to vote at all, or less than 15% of the Republican electorate who voted against Christie in the primary. If Christie gets 85% of the Republican vote in November he’s in good shape.”

Your calculation is erroneous. There is no reason the believe the 45% of the Republican voters who cast their ballot for Lonegan/Merkt do not also represent at least 45% of the voters eligible to cast ballots in November.

But let’s assume you are correct – that only 15% of the Republican electorate oppose Christie. Let’s further assume half of them sit out the election, write in Lonegan or vote for a third party candidate. That means Christie will be deprived of 75,000 votes in an election where the Democrats outnumber Republicans almost 2:1, where Obama will be making NJ his second home and where all the stops will be pulled out to keep Corzine in office – including a full court press by ACORN to register non-existent voters.

Barring any miracles, Christie is toast.

  11. Dan Grant says:

I have never seen anything written or spoken in regard to Palin’s youngest child. This is just part of the mythology of the Right’s claims of “Hate”. The Clintons were the victims of an unreasoning hatred and that is well documented. I don’t think anyone “Hates” Palin they just think she is an average small pond politician who found a better way to make money. Christie would be well to streer clear of her. BTW I don’t think Christie is toast, speaking as a Democrat, our party has it’s own special NJ based problems and I don’t think President Obama’s visits can help them.

“I have never seen anything written or spoken in regard to Palin’s youngest child. This is just part of the mythology of the Right’s claims of “Hate”.”

You need to expand your reading list. For starters, you can check out Andrew Sullivan’s obsession with Bristol being Trig’s real mother at the Atlantic. From there, enter the words “wonkette” and “trig” into Google and then keep an air sickness bag nearby.

“The Clintons were the victims of an unreasoning hatred and that is well documented.”

What is well documented are the numerous investigations into the highly dubious behavior of this highly dubious couple – culminating in the impeachment of Slick Willy for perjury and subornation of perjury. Were there Clinton haters in those years? Yup – but that contingent didn’t include the now nakedly partisan Mainstream Media.

“I don’t think anyone “Hates” Palin they just think she is an average small pond politician who found a better way to make money.”

You are ignorant or naive or both. The unhinged Left, which presently controls what was once the Democratic Party but is now the Democrat Socialist Party, absolutely despises her with an intensity that parallels the hatred they expressed for George W. Bush.

“Christie would be well to streer clear of her. BTW I don’t think Christie is toast, speaking as a Democrat, our party has it’s own special NJ based problems and I don’t think President Obama’s visits can help them.”

Christie is a RINO hack – the GOP mirror-image of Jon Corzine. For all practical purposes, the GOP establishment in this state is in bed with the Democrats and can pretty much count out the vote of the conservative base.

And don’t underestimate the power of Bambi Kool-Aid and the Hopium Hookah.

When the Wizard of Uhhs comes to the Garden State, the adoring – if utterly moronic – masses will flock to see him and when he asks “Can we re-elect Jon Corzine?” they will shout in unison, “Yes we can!”

Have faith, Dan. Be of good cheer: your party will triumph in November. And when this state finally does collapse, history will hang the blame around the necks of the Democrats like a millstone.

  13. Dan Grant says:

“Holy Hatred” Manly Rash, there are ointments that will relieve your pain. Your Quotes express more hate than a 1950’s flyer from the KKK. “Ignorant”, “Moronic”, “Kool Aid Drinkers” “Democratic Socialist Party” ” The unhinged left” BTW Andrew Sullivan is a gay Republican not a Democrat and that may in itself represent some degree of self hate but he is not from the far left. He considers himself to be a Conservative.

  14. Hogwash11 says:

    Mr.Grant

You did not read the piece in the Huffington Post by Erik Sean Nelson? He wrote the following; “In Sarah Palin’s resignation announcement she complained about the treatment of her son Trig who always teaches her life lessons. She said that the “world needs more Trigs, not fewer.” That’s a presidential campaign promise we can all get behind. She will be the first politician to actually try to increase the population of retarded people. To me, it’s kinda like saying the world needs more cancer patients because they teach us such personal lessons. Her first act as President: To introduce a Pre-K lunch buffet that includes lead paint chips. Sort of a Large HEAD-START Program.
She will then encourage women to hold off on pregnancies until their 40’s just to mix up some chromosomes.
She now is in favor of abortion only in case of diploid birth.
Her policies will increase jobs because Wal-Mart is building new stores each day and someone has to be the greeter.
This will lead to smaller government because fewer Americans will have the cognitive ability to hold a government job. Yes Mr. Grant there is much more hate to go around than you know about.

  15. it is really great to get government jobs because the government can give you a good job security `;-
