Odd scene in Morristown

Mayor Donald  Cresitello had the stage to himself  Monday night — literally.

That’s because Tim Dougherty, his opponent in the June 2 Democratic primary, didn’t show up. Why a man challenging an incumbent would not show up for a debate is hard to understand.

With nothing but an empty chair next to him, Cresitello said without response that Dougherty lacks the “business acumen” and credentials to be mayor.

And he poked fun at Dougherty’s charge that he runs a closed administration, noting the obvious, “Mr. Dougherty is not here tonight.”

Dougherty has said he bypassed the debate because he was campaigning.
