Lonegan backers miffed

Gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie spoke to a crowd of more than 150 people at the Masonic temple in Morristown tonight shortly after 7:30 p.m. Steve Lonegan, his main competitor for the GOP nomination, did not speak until around 9 p.m.

That did not sit well with some Lonegan backers who griped about the deck being stacked in Christie’s favor. They had a point.

With all due respect to the Morris County Republican Women’s organization, which hosted the event, all three gubernatorial candidates, Christie,Lonegan and Rick Merkt, should have been on stage together. Let them answer questions at the same time and let them question each other directly.

Lonegan tried to brush off the slight, and in fact got the biggest hand of the night when he said he was a conservative first and a Republican second.

Christie  wasn’t around to hear that, having already left for an event in Passaic County.

One Response to Lonegan backers miffed

  1. Ed Ramirez says:

Even the Democrats know that Lonegan will be much easier to beat come November. The Democratic Governors Association is funding anti Christie commercials in the hopes that Lonegan can win the Republican Primary. Corzine will have a field day with Lonegan as his opponent, and in the end we will have another four years of big spending and more nanny state programs. I urge all Republicans to vote for Christie so we can put an end to this madness of spending our children into the poor house.
