On second thought ….

Morris County freeholder William Chegwidden plans to run for reelection as freeholder this year and as mayor of Wharton next year.

“Cheg,” as he is known among his colleagues, previously said he would give up one of his jobs. Back in 2006, the political calendar broke in a way that allowed him to run for freeholder and mayor at the same time.

Now, he says he changed his mind and wants to keep both jobs. Sure, he can change his mind again,  but if he seeks to keep both jobs, Chegwidden will be bucking a state trend.

The Legislature “eliminated” dual office holding, but spinless types that they are, all who currently have two jobs were grandfathered.

The feeling here is that dual office holding can present an obvious conflict and that it prevents the upward mobility of others in the party.

He is a mayor, a Freeholder and a teacher how do you do that? How do you manage a class room when you are out two and three days a week. Come on Mr. Chegwidden, there are people that can do just as good a job as you do give up one job, it is the right thing to do.

Nobody else steps up to do what ” Cheg” does. He is good at all that he does., and if you feel you can do better why don’t you even try one of Chegs jobs. No one else seems to be complaining, so why should you? Again, step up and try to do one of Chegs jobs.

Two of my children have had Cheg as a teacher in the past three years, and they love him. Unlike many teachers, he is very enthusiastic about what he teaches (history), and he is not out that much. He may have to take off some time, but it not usually full days, just 2-3 hours at most. He is what ALL teachers should be – enthusiastic, caring, strict, high standards about schoolwork and homework. I consider him to be one of the best teachers at MKHS.
