Hot in Roxbury

A major deal seems to be brewing in Roxbury over the school’s board’s approval of a contract that awards teachers close to 20 percent pay raises over four years; Comments have been flowing on blogs and other internet forums. One below, from a Snotty McSnob, seems to sum up the sentiment:

An apple for the teacher doesn’t always do the trick in Roxbury,  One board member stated that for his 3 kids, he is willing to purchase everyone’s home in Roxbury so that he can give the union a 4.7% annual raise and 2 days less contact time with students.  The “ultimate teacher’s pet”!
As for our teachers, at least Jesse James worn a mask.
As for Roxbury residents, when does the focus of education turn from the employment of adults to the education of our children?

It will be interesting to see how far this issue goes; will it affect other districts?
